Madiwala area in Bangalore is bachelor heaven, one can find lot of small, cheap, tasty, diverse - all Tamil, kerala, andhra, bengali, orissa, punjabi - eateries there. Mostly every thing is flocked with the IT bachelors.
One of those for keralite speciality cuisine is Claypot - i still wonder why most of the mallu restaurants have a stylish english names in contrast to tamil or andhra eateries which are usually named as 'bhavan/mess'. Ok. let the name may be in English or Latin.. we dont give a damn care abt that.. until our taste buds are happy. :)
Clay Pot os a real real small restaurant in the mid of maruthi nagar layout. The parattos they server are great, the real kerala paratoota swinged in air, to give a smooth finishing :). They are really 'spongy'.. so soft.. The first thing that makes you refreshing is that mild warm 'jeeraga vellam', Man!! after struggling the day with chai's from vending machines and smoke filled signals you come and sit here, just have a sip of warm jeeraga vellam.. you are all set to treat your taste buds and fill your belly without burning your wallet.
The Chemmeen roast - prawn roast - they make is delicious, as it arrives to your table the aroma of coconut oil spreads in air along with the masalas, I bet no soul on the earth - who likes mallu food - can complain about ClapyPot. The very traditional karimeen pollichchattu is at its best here.
I started with parottas and chemmen roast, gulped them almost like a starving dog :), then i ordered for couple of appams with kerala chicken curry.. that was a meal from heaven. For all these heavenly made dishes -for two- it was some 175 bucks.. JUST 175 bucks.. @ a cost of a redubull boss..
The appams wer good, but the porratos with chemmen roast made my day. If you are a veggie, you have a option of 'kadalai curry' - chenna or kerala veg curry too.
Really a cool place to have ur daily dinner, ofcourse if you luv kerala cusine. :)
